Some fire safety tips
Allow some ventilation in a room with any type of fire in it. Don’t block air bricks or vents.
Keep chimneys and flues clear. If you have a solid fuel fire, have the chimney swept once a year, twice if you burn wood.
In a wood burning stove, use dry, seasoned wood. Run the stove hot for half an hour when you add fresh fuel to avoid tar build-up in the flue, which in turn might lead to a chimney fire.
Have your gas fires serviced once a year, to check for adequate ventilation, gas leaks, and that the flue is unblocked.
