Some gas fire safety tips
Have your gas fires serviced once a year, to check for adequate ventilation, gas leaks, and that the flue is unblocked.
If you have a coal effect or log effect fire, don’t put more than the recommended amount of coal or log pieces on the fire.
Check regularly for staining or soot marks above the fire. This can indicate dangerous fumes are leaking from the fire. Turn the fire off and seek advice from a CORGI registered expert.
If anyone in the room starts to feel ill or has a headache, turn off the fire, open the window and consult a CORGI registered expert.
If you smell fumes or gas, turn the fire off immediately, open doors and windows, don’t turn any electric switches either on or off, or smoke or light a match or any other sort of lighter. Ring your gas supplier’s emergency phone number.
